What’s up, buttercup?

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Oh a beautiful day in San Francisco. It seems we haven’t had that many and so I cherish them when they come. Or at least I try to.

I just wanted to write a quick hello. Chat, tell you about my weekend, sing you a song(you can hear me, right?:-)

It seems as always, that the days just blend together. About 3 times today I asked outloud “What day is it again?”. I was pleased that I found the answer to be Tuesday, because I have the day off and have the time to check things off my list.

So my weekend. Well Friday night I went to go see my producer, Jon Evans, play in his band Boca do Rio at Cafe du Nord and they were AMAZING. I’m not sure if I told you that he is one of the baddest bass players around, but he is. It’s true. Not only that, but the “tambourine” (as I later found out is called a pandeiro) player, did things to that tambourine that I’ve never seen before. It was really an awesome thing to see. It was as if he had an entire drum kit in his hand. He was his own rhythm section. He was also so nice when I went up to him afterwards to tell him how great he was:-) Jon said there are shows where he plays it all over his head, body, and goes crazy! i’d love to see that!

The headliner that night was a favorite band of mine Si*se (in spanish it means, “yes, I know”). They’re from New York and I saw them many years ago when I still lived there. I also saw them when they played here about 4-5 years ago at the Independent. They are a “latin” band, and the lead singer sings in both spanish and english. It was a good show as I was surprised at how many songs I knew. They only have 2 albums out (and a new EP which I just bought) and I have them both. They played a few new songs and it made me very excited for their new record.

The rest of my weekend wasn’t too exciting. Thai food with a friend on Saturday night. Oh and I played an awesome open mic on Sunday night at this beautiful church. It’s such a great place for an open mic or for any show because the sound is angelical (pun intended).

Monday(I know this post is long-I also know that monday is not the weekend but it’s important so bear with me)I went and I got my record mastered. I went and got my record mastered. I’m sure not many of you know what that means. I’m not sure I even know what it means. But basically, my record is thisclose to being finished. I have to change a couple of things, and then the sound part of it will be done! I have to work on my  artwork/design which I’m realizing now is going to take a lot longer than I thought it would. But, I am well on my way. And I’m excited. Thanks for reading, if you made it this far. I’m leaving you with my favorite song by Si*se. It’s in spanish. Buena Suerte.

amor,

Dana
