If you won’t say it, then I will…. I don’t like the Kings of Leon. Gasp. are you still there? I’m sorry. I know they are the hottest thing since sliced bread but I’ll take my turkey and cheese on some Chromeo, please. I just don’t get it. I went to The Outside Lands Fest here in San Francisco on Sunday and the Kings of Leon were headlining. My boyfriend and I were much more interested in seeing Phoenix (they rocked by the way) and Chromeo (who really rocked by the way) and we had about an hour or so to wait until Kings of Leon performed. We had seen them on an episode of “Austin City Limits” and we were not impressed so we debated staying for the performance. But since we were there already, I said “Let’s just see once and for all if they really are as un-impressive as we think they are”.

Well, they did not disappoint. I don’t see what the fuss is about. I mean, maybe they are good looking but I don’t even think so. Their songs are so monotonous. They don’t have interesting chord progressions, and they just don’t go anywhere. It is the same thing over and over. We kept waiting for something to happen and finally after a while we realized it was never going to. I was never going to get emotional over these songs and I was never going to think the seriousness in which the lead singer sings is cute. It isn’t. I think he just sings the same words over and over again.

Maybe other people hear things that I don’t. But that’s ok. I can live with that.  I am sometimes amazed at how  the newest cute and talentless ”the next big thing” is so easily lauded for whatever reason and people seem to blindly follow. It makes me kind of sad. I like innovation, uniqueness, passion. The Kings of Leon, my friends had none of those things. They are in my opinion, just Mediocre. The Kings of Mediocre.

Listen to a song that I love from this group called Yeasayer. Oddly enough I went to high school with the bass player and found them through my high school fan page on facebook. Talk about crazy. But this band is really popular and I guarantee you’re going to see tons of them…..
