Coast

I remember distinctly sitting at the dining room table in my old apartment in Bed Stuy (Brooklyn), guitar in hand, playing and singing this phrase over and over again:

"I'm sitting on top of the moment, I can't seem to sink in. I'm caught in between where I'm going and where I've been".

It captured perfectly what I was feeling. Wanting to get deeper into the moment, and feeling like I couldn't get there-like, if the moment was a bubble, I was sitting on top of it, floating through the air.

And that's as far as I got. I couldn't figure out the rest of the song but I kept going back to it again and again.

Eventually I brought it to a co-writing session where my co-writer Sarah Mac and I worked on it together until it became what is now known as "Coast."

I love that the creative process takes you places you never thought of, but when you follow it step by step it eventually leads you exactly where you need to be.

This is also a fan-favorite 🤩 and made it onto my album "Little Red Heart". It's a great song to listen to while cruising down the highway, maybe along a coastline somewhere:) Or for a car commercial.

Without further ado: Coast

all my love,
Dana

I’m sitting on top of the moment, I can’t seem to sink in
I’m caught in between where I’m going and where I’ve been

Yesterday’s only a memory of who I was and where I’ve been
It’s hard to forget all the faces and things I’ve seen

Coast, Coast, through the air I float
Rocking to and fro, I ride the wave til I find home

Oooooohhhhhh

Tomorrow’s only a wonder of where I’ll go and who’ll I’ll be
and I just get so stuck, trying to see

Coast, Coast, through the air I float
Rocking to and fro, I ride the wave til I find home

I can’t keep doing this, doing this, to myself
It’s all I think about, drink about, and nothing helps
and all I need is time to find what’s mine all by myself
and I hope when I get there I’ll know…

But for now,
I coast, coast, through the air I float
Rocking to and fro I ride the wave, ‘til I find home
