The Only One I Got

Have you ever been in a moment of your life where you wished you could press pause and take in everything about it? The scent, the sounds, the feelings, the people? I find myself having those moments frequently, especially since it feels like time is passing by in lightning speed.⚡️

When I was in Nashville a couple months ago, I wrote a song with 2 great co-writers, Megan Kelly and Nick Serro, while we were experiencing one such moment and wanted to capture it as best we could.

We were sitting in Nick’s backyard, spitting out ideas for what we would write. Nothing was landing.

So, I was like “I’m going to go grab my guitar and let’s see what happens”. That’s usually how I start writing songs when I’m alone: with my guitar and a vibe and not a lot of planning or scheming beforehand.

But in Nashville, I found that most people start with the lyrics and a title or idea, and I learned to adapt.

I started singing about what was going on in the moment. The sun was shining. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. The birds were chirping so loud, and we ended up writing a song about being in the moment. Being in THAT moment.

I've been singing this song a lot since then because I can apply it to so many other moments in life. Like this one in Umbria, Italy. The whole week I spent there, I sang this song on repeat because I wanted to hold on to every single moment.

There's something about this song that calms me down and feels like I can in fact bottle up the moments and feelings just by putting it into words and melodies. It’s a great reminder that this moment, right here, right now, is the only we got.

I hope you get a feeling of calm while listening to it and remember it each time you experience a moment you'd like to press pause on. Consider this your very own personal pause button.

Enjoy “The Only One I Got” !

All my love,
Dana
