Where We Belong

I remember it like it was yesterday. I had just moved to Brooklyn from SF and was settling in to my new apartment living with my BFF. As he was leaving for work, he put me on the couch and said, "Here watch this. It's our favorite show".

Little did I know, that I would get sucked in (no pun intended) to the love story between Eric and Sookie.

The show I'm talking about is True Blood. (If you've never seen the show and think you might watch it, skip the next part and listen to the song I wrote below).

(spoiler alert ahead!)

There is a scene in one of the later seasons, where Eric and Sookie dreamily frolic in the snow after years of not being together and I was so moved and happy and sad and all the things that I sat down at the piano and I started to write a song.

I wrote it from the point of view of Eric. I left the song for a while and couldn’t finish it. It was missing a bridge. When I was in Philly at some point, I played the unfinished song and my dad, who was upstairs, yelled down to me "What was that?"

and I was like" oh, it's a song I've been working on but can't seem to finish".

And he was like "well, finish it! It’s great!".

I don’t need much arm-twisting because after some attempts, I finished the song that is now known as "Where We Belong". It's on my album (Little Red Heart) and once it was recorded I went back and synched it (illegally no less!) to that scene. It fit perfectly.

I don’t have the rights to the video, but I’m going to share it here anyway. You won’t report me, right? Be fore-warned it is a LOVE scene so there is some nudity. Now would be a good time to shoo any littles away from the screen.

It's my friend Allix's favorite song of mine. When I played it for her for the first time, I turned around and there were tears streaming down her face.

I always joke that I measure the success of my songs by how many tears are shed. :)

Without further ado...

here is "Where We Belong".

All my love,
Dana
