Spirit Junkie

(Gabby doing her thang)

I've mentioned before that I'm constantly seeking things that inspire me and that I'm passionate about and while most of them are music related, some of them are not.

So it's Friday night, I'm surrounded by hundreds of people, mostly women (and one baby), and we're in a Church. (I should mention the only times I am ever in a church are when I'm in Europe looking at the frescoes). And I'm there to listen to a lecture. NERD ALERT!

The lecturer was none-other than Gabrielle Bernstein. She has been a huge inspiration in piquing my curiosity about my own spirituality.  She has written a few books (one of them called Spirit Junkie) and talks a lot about connecting with your internal guidance system, God, spirit, Universe, intuition...whatever you want to call it.

I thought I could share a couple of my favorite things that Gabby said. The subject of the lecture was "Living in the Know". And she was saying that when you are in the know you have a feeling of ease, peace, and confidence.. When you're not "in the know", you're most likely  trying to control the outcome of situations, or worrying about the future, or thinking about the past, and you're probably living in a state of fear.

Living in the know is about surrender and it's about faith. And oddly enough, faith in the unknown. It's about having faith that the Universe has your back. That its' plan for you is greater than you could possibly imagine or construct yourself.

Something about this concept relaxes me. It takes the pressure off when I believe that there's something bigger out there with a plan for me that I can't see because I'm limited by my experiences. Not to say we still don't give 100% to our life but there are some things out of our control and trying to control them creates a lot of tension and dis-ease. Giving up control, gives us power.

If you want to know more about Gabby, I highly suggest you go over to her website and check her out. I must admit when I first got introduced to her I was a little weary of her woo-woo ness. But slowly, I got wooed by it.:)

What's your take on faith and surrendering? Have you found anything that works in your own spirituality?

Hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know in the comments below.
