Are you ready for it?
/Keeping with the TS edition of "songs I wish I wrote" comes a song that has only recently grown on me.
For this reason, I don't have "...ready for it?" on my "main album" of top TS songs, but rather on my 3am version.
No idea what I'm talking about? I'll explain.... When Taylor released the album "midnights", she released the main album of songs and then released more songs on her 3am version.
I think of those songs as after thoughts. Even though I'd have chosen many of them on my main album ("Glitch" anyone?) as opposed to the 3am one, they can't all make the Midnights version. Much like "ready for it?", for me.
So, this song would be on my 3am version but I wanted to include it now because since it has recently grown on me, I am acutely aware of a few tactics she uses to achieve the powerful punch of this song and it has challenged some previously held beliefs about rules in songwriting.
I should mention what I didn't say in the video, is that different rules apply to different genres of music. Country music has different rules than pop music. Like for example, whether the subject is vague or more story-like. Or whether you can repeat a word or line somewhere in the song.
She does things in pop that wouldn't be acceptable in country music...BUT, to be fair, she broke the same rules when she was in the country genre as well. My philosophy is, "if Taylor can do it, so can I ".
And with that...."are you ready for it?"
Leave a comment over on my Youtube channel and let me know which Taylor songs are your favorite! Maybe I'll do a "songs I wish I wrote" about it. If it is indeed a song I wish I wrote, of course. And if you would be so kind as to hit subscribe
Until the next episode.
