Love her or hate her, she's a songwriting queen 👑
/I’m reluctant to make any statements about the future of “songs I wish I wrote” because I am in the fun, creative and “ride the wave” mode. But, I can say with some certainty that this artist is going to make a regular appearance and may even have a spin-off series.
I know she’s everywhere and I’m sure you’ve had your fill. Even I have had my fill. But I won’t be talking about her personal life, or about her economic impact. Just about her music and the impact it’s had on me as a songwriter.
Have you guessed it yet? That’s right. Taylor Swift.
I hate to be one of those people who says “I loved her when ''....but I’m going to be one of those people. I feel like I have to qualify myself since the world seems to be caught up in a TS storm of the likes we’ve never seen, and it'd be false to accuse me of jumping on the Taytay bandwagon. GASP! No way. If you know anything about me, I bristle at the thought of being part of any bandwagon.
So for my own sake, let's clear it up:
I loved her when…I bought in on her album, Red (yes, when she was still Country).
I loved her when…I went to a show in 2014 when it was fairly reasonably priced.
Ok? Did I make my case?
The song I’m talking about today, “Cardigan”, is off her album Folklore and is in my top 5 Taylor Swift songs of all time. Bold statement, I know. But I’m going there. Iykyk.
I have a lot more to say about it, which I do in the video, but in summary, she has her moments (not every moment) of being a lyrical genius and this song is one of the greatest examples of that.
Let me know in the comments over on Youtube. What’s your favorite TS song? Do you love her, or love to hate her? No judgments either way. And if you would be so kind as to hit that subscribe button….
Until the next episode.
xoxo,
D
