Baby, you're a .....
/Happy Monday!
Is that even a thing? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Well, It is today!
Here it is. The first video of my series that I'm super excited to create and to share. It's called "Songs I wish I wrote" and it's about....you guessed it....songs I wish I wrote.
In each video, I talk about a song and the elements that make it so great to me. Whether it's melody (it's usually always the melody), phrasing, subject matter, or lyrics, these songs all have something that I walk away from thinking "why didn’t I think of that?” or “I want to try that". And usually it's something I do end up incorporating.
Today’s song is an oldie but goodie by Katy Perry:)
I learn a lot by listening to what other people do in their songs, whether that's something I want to imitate or steer away from. In this series, I focus on what I want to imitate, but who knows? Maybe my next series will be called “songs I’m glad I didn’t write”. haha.
Also, important to remember that someone else (aka you) might hear the same thing and not like it at all. That's the beauty of art and interpretation and there is value in all of it.
After the next couple of weeks, I'll be doing a special edition of "Songs I wish I wrote", so that's something to look forward to.
In the meantime, enjoy this breakdown of a Katy Perry classic. Whether you write songs or not, there are always new ways to listen to and hear music.
If you know any songwriters who would enjoy this, pass it along. And of course subscribing to my channel allows me to do more of these videos, so please hit that button.
Until the next episode! (literally)
xoxo,
Dana
