Goodbye
/With all the songs that I’ve recorded (1 EP and 2 full records), my pattern has been having the songs written WAY before I ever go into the studio. In fact, I often feel like I’m so behind when it comes to recording.
So many songs, so little time.
I have the songs for so long that by the time I go into the studio, record them, and then release them, I have a whole slew of new songs that I want to record.
There is one exception to that experience. My song, “Goodbye”. I wrote the song while I was in the midst of recording my album “Little Red Heart”.
It was inspired by a relationship where the person totally ghosted. 👻 I wrote it as soon as I realized that’s what was going on and it was a great release. Man oh man, is it a completely shocking (not to mention cowardly) way for things to end.
Because it was so raw and I felt it so deeply, I brought the song, so fresh and so clean, to my producer. He was like “let’s record it now” and I was like “hell yeah”. I was happy to not wait for the next cycle of recording.
Some of the things I love about this recording are the background vocals and the harmonies, and how the pre-chorus lyrics change among other things. Also the last chord is very Beatle-esque if I may say so myself. Changing it from the minor to the major (music nerd alert!)
Without further ado, here is “Goodbye”.
All my never-ghosting love,
Dana

LYRICS :
There is nothing that I can do except let you go
I thought for a moment that it could be you, but I thought wrong we both know
Just for a minute, just for an hour, I’d like to see your face
I’ll tell you my secrets and all of the reasons I think we need to say
Goodbye
I’d never predict an ending like this but you really never know
It used to be easy, like Sunday so breezy, but we got hit by the storm
Just for a season, for something to lean on, I’d like to hear your voice
You’ll tell me your secrets and all of the reasons, we have no other choice
Goodbye
What if we tried everything we could?
Forgave everything, left the past for good?
You think there’s any way, we wouldn’t have to say…..
Goodbye
