I’m obsessed

Question: when you love a song, do you play it on repeat day in and day out until at some point you realize there might be another song somewhere in the world you can play?

I’ve been like that since I can remember. Driving my college roommate insane with my constant listening to the miseducation of Lauryn Hill (how can she be mad about that?) and Dave Matthews Band (what? 😳 I got a wide array of tastes).

In the last few years, I’ve come to find out that it might have something to do with control issues. haha. Listening to music and re-watching shows or movies I’ve seen before. Do you do that too?

Apparently because you’ve seen it (or heard it) before and know how it ends, it helps you feel like you’ve got some control. Or something like that.

But I digress.

This song was in another show I was obsessed with, the second season of “The White Lotus”. The soundtrack is incredible. Because the show takes place in Sicily, all the songs are in Italian.

I studied in Italy for a time and have continued with Italian classes so speak it fairly well and I love listening to music or watching shows in Italian to help me improve.

The song is called “Ciao Ciao” and is in such an epic scene of the show. It made me stop and get my phone to shazam it. It has been on repeat ever since.

What I love about it:

  • the bass line

  • the words- she’s basically saying “it’s the end of the world, the big wave is coming, let’s go out with a bang, and with love, I’m saying “bye”. “ciao ciao with my hands, with my feet, with my head, with ny chest, and with my heart, bye.” There’s more nuance to it, but that’s the gist

  • the horns

  • the vibe- feels like an end of the world song. Or a song I’d want to dance to when the end of the world was coming
