Evolution of a Song-Week Twenty

Week Twenty-"Deny" Greetings from Israel! I am here celebrating my grandmother's 90th birthday and we are having the best time. I'm not sure how many people can say their grandmother is a great drinking partner but mine is. We drink whiskey before 10 am (Week Four's "Whiskey at One-clock" needs to be revised for when I'm with her) and wine with lunch and dinner. Every time I come I learn so much about my family. And she is such a character!

So I knew I was going to be here for week 20 and was a crazy person trying to finish two songs before I left last week. I knew I'd be too drunk to get one done here! Haha. Really I just didn't want to have to worry about it.

This one is a song I've had in the works for a while but I reworked it to a place I really like. The chords are kinda wacky but they're pleasing to me and it felt a little different than my usual sound while still being me.

I go back and forth between wanting to share what my songs are about and wanting people to have their own interpretation. I know with Pearl Jam (my favorite band) half the time I have no idea what he's really talking about but I make it my own and I love that.

My songs aren't so complex that you can't figure it out but I still want you to have your own experience with them. That's why I talk more about the creation of them and less on the emotion of them. Or I try anyway:)

What is your take on the situation? Do you like knowing the stories behind the songs?Or do you like to interpret them for yourself. For me, it really depends. I'd love to know your opinion so leave a comment below.

All my whiskey-drinking love,

Dana
